West Span Dampers Project Completed
CEC recently completed the project to replace 96 seismic dampers on the Bay Bridge for Caltrans. To gain access to the dampers that are on the lower chord beneath the roadway, CEC installed eight suspended truss platforms that stretched across the width of the bridge. The final phase of the project was to remove and lower these platforms, as seen in the video and photos here. Three cranes working in conjunction were needed for this middle-of-the-night operation, including one on the top deck, one on the lower deck and one on a floating barge.

The Port of Stockton’s shipping operations required that a new dock be rebuilt for vessels up to 1000-feet in length. The new dock would vastly increase the safety and efficiency of dock operations during vessel traffic. Click here to learn more.
Bay Bridge West Span Dampers
CEC is beginning work on Caltrans contract 04-3G4424 on the San Francisco Oakland Bay Bridge West Span. The work primarily consists of replacing 96 seismic dampers, removing and replacing the existing A325 bolts with A490 bolts on the corresponding damper brackets. In addition to this work, CEC will also remove and replace the existing brackets at the center anchorage. The work will generally be done at nights under lane closures.
