Work is well underway on the BART Transbay Tube Retrofit project. In order to perform the work in the bores, Shimmick/CEC JV developed a work train which will provide access for the crews and specialized equipment needed. The work train consists of 3 locomotives and up to 14 flatcars, each designed with the equipment necessary for the particular item of work to be performed. BART has arranged “Single Tracking” hours of 9:30 pm – 5:00 am for the work to be performed in one of the Bores while train run in the other Bore.
The work train equipment was fabricated in Iowa and recently transported to the jobsite via rail cars and offloaded onto the BART tracks for assembly.
In preparation of the work, crews are performing trials of the retrofit operations in the Yard.
