West Span Dampers Project Completed

CEC recently completed the project to replace 96 seismic dampers on the Bay Bridge for Caltrans. To gain access to the dampers that are on the lower chord beneath the roadway, CEC installed eight suspended truss platforms that stretched across the width of the bridge.

The final phase of the project was to remove and lower these platforms. Three cranes working in conjunction were needed for this middle-of-the-night operation, including one on the top deck, one on the lower deck and one on a floating barge.
